The Graduate Program in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering (ORIE) offers a graduate-level course entitled Applied Projects in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering (APRIORI) each spring semester. The objective of this course is to provide students an opportunity to apply their knowledge to a typical industry problem. Further, the course provides an industry sponsor with a detailed analysis and solution to a problem of their choosing.

In the APRIORI course, students work in teams of approximately three to four, with each team working on a different industry-sponsored project. Before the beginning of the semester, the industry sponsor defines the problem, and then periodically through the semester will clarify issues, provide data, and give further guidance. Each student team will model and analyze their problem under the guidance of an ORIE faculty advisor and submit periodic progress reports. At the semester's end, each team will submit a final report and give a presentation to the industry sponsor.
