The newest addition to the ORIE faculty is Dr. Raghu Bollapragada. Dr. Bollapragada earned his Ph. D. in Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Sciences from Northwestern University in 2019. He then joined UT Austin in late 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. His research lies at the intersection of optimization and statistics, and is motivated by applications in machine learning. His main goal with his research is to design algorithms that are provably convergent and are capable of dealing with the size and nonlinearity of modern machine learning systems.
