Connor Colombe and Ben Leibewicz

Connor Colombe, a PhD student in the ORIE program at The University of Texas at Austin, received the 2023 Dennis J. O’Brien Best Student Paper Award at the United State Association for Energy Economics (USAEE) conference. 

Colombe received this award for his paper entitled ‘The Effects of Policy Uncertainty and Risk Aversion on Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage Investments’ after his special session presentation at the USAEE conference in Chicago. 

He attended Harvey Mudd College as an undergraduate and his current research has focused on studying carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) subsidies and the policy barriers to CCUS deployment. In essense trying to understand what effect subsidies have on CCUS and what is the optimal subsidy level. This paper in particular was focused on building a novel CCUS infrastructure optimization model that was used to determine the effects of policy uncertainty and investor risk aversion on CCUS deployment. 

Colombe received a $1000 cash prize and a conference registration fee scholarship for his award.
